Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, BJ Johnson is a multi‑disciplinary artist specializing in tattooing, custom machine fabrication, metalsmithing, and mixed media sculpture.

He began tattooing in 1997 at the original Purple East building, honing his craft through roles in and ownership of several studios before co‑founding GreenLion Studios with his wife, Jill.

Today, BJ balances his appointment‑only tattoo practice with designing and handcrafting precision tattoo machines and small metal artworks in GreenLion’s private workshop—driven by a lifelong passion to create and inspired by every dedicated maker he encounters.
